Kuda Bux
1905–1981
Biography
Kuda Bux, billed as 'The Man with the X-Ray Eyes,' was an Indian-born performer who became an international sensation through blindfold feats of extraordinary discipline. His signature demonstrations — reading, identifying objects, and navigating while sightless beneath thick pads of dough and bandages — established a benchmark for blindfold mentalism.
Bux augmented his blindfold work with endurance stunts, including fire-walking demonstrations that drew scientific as well as popular attention. His austere, almost mystical stage manner made him a distinctive figure in mid-century variety and a lasting reference point for performers of blindfold and mentalism.
Why They Matter
He set the standard for blindfold-based mentalism and physical endurance stunts.
