Stage Illusion

Biography

Dante, born Harry Jansen, was an American illusionist who carried the grand touring magic show into the mid-twentieth century under the banner of his 'Sim Sala Bim' production. A student of the great illusionist Servais Le Roy, Jansen built a massive, globe-trotting spectacle of exotic set pieces, comic interludes, and large-scale illusions.

Dante's show was among the last of the full-scale traveling magic companies, touring internationally for decades and preserving the grand style of illusion that preceded the era of the permanent theater residency. His name became virtually synonymous with large-scale stage magic in the popular imagination of his time.

Why They Matter

He was one of the last great touring illusionists to maintain a full-scale, spectacle-heavy traveling magic show.
